U.S. Army came knocking at my door

Back in the early 1970’s the U.S. Army came knocking at my door and requested my presence at Fort Lewis, WA; Fort Gordon, GA; Nha Trang & Can Tho Viet Nam, and Fort Hood, TX.

Most of my 1970 thru 1973 time with the Army was in Viet Nam but did get some time in WA, GA and TX.

Have written numerous stories of my time at each of those locations, find them if you can, they are on various sites.

Once Viet Nam War wound down the U.S. Army did not need as many folks so they allowed some of us to go into the National Guard or Reserve if we did not want to stay in the regular Army. I chose to go to the Texas National Guard in my home town for a change.

On my arrival at Fort Hood from Viet Nam my unit was a MP Law Enforcement unit, but after two months my unit was moved to the military stockade (prison) to pull duty as a prison guard. That experience was different, so different that after the prisoners burned down half of the cell blocks I decided the National Guard might be a better fit.

More stories on my time in the Guard and my return to active duty with the regular Army are also posted here there and every where.
