Waco, Texas in the mid 1960s

Back in the ancient days of the 1960’s most of us teen agers, or almost teen agers did not date like most people today date. We would meet at a party thrown by one of the kids at their house.

From 1964 to 1966 me and many of my friends from North Waco Junior High met for fun and excitement at parties that started about 7PM and lasted till about 10PM just about each and every Friday night.

These parties were chaperoned by my Aunt Ruthie most of the time, every now and then Unc...le Eddie would be there, but both my Aunt and Uncle stayed in the den and or kitchen and did not come out into the party area unless needed. Aunt Ruthie had these parties because she had three daughters, Cindy, Connie, and Linda and they enjoyed parties so Aunt Ruthie had parties for her daughters and their friends.

Remembering Friday night parties in Junior Hight way back when.

My sister Carla and I were lucky enough to get to go these parties. Other folks had parties also, but we mainly went to parties at my Aunt Ruthie's.

Parties on Friday night were fun, we danced, we talked, we ate dip and chips, drank cola, no one smoked, at least not at the party, and no one drank alcohol or did drugs that I was aware of.

The parties at Aunt Ruthie's were not like the North Waco Junior High sock hops were most folks stood about and gawked at each other from the guy and the gals groups. At these Friday night parties the guys and gals mixed, danced real close, talked, and kissed, yes we kissed back in those days.

We had slow dancing and fast dancing and let me tell you the slow dances could be intense at times, after all we were in our teens and this close contact with the opposite sex got exciting at times, nope, no sex, just close contact in the form of a slow dance...smiles.

Back in the 1960’s we thought we were wild and crazy and were living to have fun and living the good life, most of us did just that.

The life and times of teenagers in Waco, Texas in the mid 1960s.
