Ann
and I have been reading up on Parrots to try and get a better idea on what Joe
our newly adopted Amazon Parrot is thinking while he spends way to much time
snacking, eating, drinking water and then taking naps instead of playing with
the assortment of toys and chew sticks and branches we have for him.
We
have managed to get Joe interested in a water bottle spray to get him wet while
he is on his play stand perch on the lanai and he seems to like that, whereas before
this shower event Joe was not interested in taking a bath in his bath bowl like
we had been told he liked to do.
Joe
has learned that when his shower on the lanai is over he can hop or glide down
from his play stand perch and walk from the lanai back to his cage located in
the next room about ten yards from his shower site.
Once
Joe get to his cage he is able to climb up the side of the cage to get back in
his cage or get on top of his cage where he as a play stand, water and snack
cup. When Joe gets in his cage or on top of his cage after his walk Ann and I
make a big deal of it and Joe will whistle and talk and gets happy about his
accomplishment.
Today
after reading several articles on how to get your Amazon Parrot to play with
his toys I took some of Joe’s smaller toys and placed them on my shirt so he
could explore then while I held him on my hand. In the articles and on video
Parrots liked the idea of exploring those items on their owners shirt, Joe on
the other hand tried it, beaked a toy or two, chewed a wooden sick, did not
like it, got upset I had moved his toys and refused to play with those toys!
Needles
to say Joe is a fun Parrot but can be high maintenance at times, Ann and I will
continue to get him out of his cage and on our hands and arms so he can get use
to us, feel safe with us, and maybe he will enjoy his toys and us more and more
each and every day.
Joe
also likes to walk back to our master suite, sit on his play stand in the
master suite and watch television with us and when he gets tired of that flock
time he jumps or glides down to the floor and walks back to his cage, climbs up
the side of his cage and takes a nap.
Since
Joe has only been with Ann and Me for thirty days we and he are still adjusting
to this new life style, Joe with new humans named Ann and Bob, us with a new
Parrot named Joe.
Joe
does like to talk with us five are six times a day and we get him interested
for a brief time in sounds, music, words and phrases, he recites a large list
of words and phrases but gets tired of that after about ten minutes.
No
Amazon Parrots or Humans were harmed in the typing of this bog for Joe the
Amazon Parrot.
