Joe the Amazon Parrot #62

Today Sunday July 17, 2016 started off with me sleeping in late which meant Joe also slept in and it was not till Ann woke me up and said I should go check on Joe that I realized the sun was up, it was about 8:30 AM and I was still in slumber land.

My normal routine started with opening the blinds and shades, turning on the music, making coffee, straightening up the kitchen, making coffee, and getting fresh water for Ann and Joe and making sure both of my family members were up, awake, and had their coffee and water to start the morning off.

As the morning started Ann was reading in bed while Joe was kind of up on his upper perch but neither of them was ready to stir from bed or perch just yet, which allowed me to get my coffee and relax with my book.

Joe let me know later it was time to clean his cage and change his paper so he would have something fresh to read while snacking on his toast or cheeto. Once Joe’s cage was clean and he was reading the morning news Ann came into the media room and said Hello Joe, Hello Bob, and both Joe and I replied Good Morning.

Ann and I decided to get a pet several months ago and after many discussion about pets and the amount of energy to take care of those pets, Anna and I decided to pick three small dogs and three small birds to investigate as our possible pet.

Pain issues have been causing Ann and I both problems the last few months so we decided on a bird instead of a dog, we had birds as pets ten or so years ago and knew we could take care of one bird no matter what our energy issues were.
Ann selected Joe the Amazon Parrot from his picture on a Parrot adoption site, we called and made arrangement to meet Joe and see if Joe liked us and if we liked Joe. If yall have been reading Joe’s blog you know how that meeting turned out and how Joe came to live with Ann and Me.

Joe our Amazon parrot looks just like our previously owned Love Bird Petey and Ann fell in love with Joe the first time she saw his picture and even more when we met Joe.  Joe has kept Ann’s and my spirits up and has become a real therapy parrot keeping both of us smiling and having fun each and every day.

Joe our Amazon parrot decided I should talk a little about Ann and her pain and lack of energy issues because he is worried about Ann, Ann just became his new parrot owner and he wants her to be around and active for a long time.

Ann is such a strong woman and has battled her pain issues so well over the last ten years, but those pain issues along with all her high test medications for pain has zapped her energy and she has started to have sudden falls with no warning and has several bruises and scrapes from those falls.

Joe and I are worried about Ann’s health and am taking steps to make sure Ann get’s more exercise, that her medications are sufficient to control her pain but not so powerful she has no energy and feels tired all the time.

Ann has had three major falls since last week with who knows how many close calls when she bumped into a wall or door and got bruised and scraped without a fall, there is more change in the Busby house to get Ann back to her healthy self, Joe the therapy parrot is a major emotional help along with more work by Ann and Me to get both our selves back to normal health is in the works.

Living life without energy is not fun and causes so many other issues and Ann’s recent falls has got both Ann and I thinking more on how to eat and be healthier and do what needs to be done to accomplish our physical and emotional needs.

While out giving Joe our parrot a mist shower Ann and I were enjoying out time with Joe and Joe was having fun with his shower, but as Ann was getting ready to walk from the lanai to the living room she fell to the pavement without any notice, luckily she did not hurt herself, Joe and I were right there but had no time to react to keep Ann from falling.

It is now apparent the cane Ann has been using is not sufficient to keep her from falling, and me or anyone else nearby cannot react in time to catch Ann, but maybe the walker we just got will give her something to grab onto and swing herself into the seat when she starts to fall.

This is where catch 22 come into play, Ann needs exercise to get her energy back but loss of energy keeps her from exercising, Ann needs to control her nerve pain and that requires high potency medications, but the medications zap her energy, it is going to be a interesting how we fix all of these issues.

Now that Ann is settled in and reading and Joe is on his play stand near his cage and playing with his toys, I will head out and get a few things Ann and Joe need, both Ann and Joe have been advised to be sure and call me on their cell phones if they need me.

Joe knows what to do if Ann falls and cannot get up and Ann knows what to do if she falls and needs assistance.

No humans or parrots were injured in the making of this Blog about the life and times of Joe the Amazon Parrot.
