Today
Monday June 20, 2016 is starting off to be a real fun day with Joe the Amazon
Parrot who awoke to music and my smiling face at 7:30 AM as I uncovered his
cage.
Joe
yawned and watched without a word or sound as I cleaned the bottom of his cage,
replaced the old paper, wiped down his grill, replenished his dry food and
provided Joe with fresh water. The fun started when I moved his cage off his
floor mat and vacuumed the mat for Joe – Joe glanced at all the action and yawned
some more.
As
I moved to inspect Joe’s fresh food dish Joe moved like lighting and stood in
front of his dish so I could not see in it or take it out of the cage. I was
ready for such a move and provided Joe with a slice of cinnamon toast with
butter on it; Joe took the toast and moved back to the middle of his cage to
enjoy his toast.
Removing
the fresh food dish discovered Joe was trying to hide the fact he ate only the
fresh corn from his dish and left the rest of his fresh food alone! Joe who was
savoring his toast gave me a look of “Do not tell Ann about the fresh veggie
dish”.
I
placed the fresh veggie dish on the counter for Ann to check later, got my
coffee and returned to where Joe had just finished his toast and Joe and I had
coffee and water while discussing the world of Parrots and Parrot owners.
While
Joe and I were working on his vocabulary I turned on our little Parrot recorder
which has a phrase on it “Yabba Daba Do” with Ann’s voice and that got Joe’s
attention quickly. Every time I turn the recorder on Joe immediately looks at
the little green recorder, approaches the recorder that is outside of his cage,
seems to inspect it and has that look as if he is thinking “How did Ann get in
that little green box”.
When
the recording ends Joe will do his mimic of laughter and walk away for more
water and settles down for more fun person and parrot talks.
Just
as the Joe and Bob party was getting into full swing at 8:20 AM Ann entered the
room and Joe said “Ann” “Oh Ann” and then laughed. Ann greeted Joe and all
three of us sat about and talked about what our days was going to be like, Joe
yawned and went back to his dry food bowl and water.
Noticed
over the last few days since Joe got his new cage he has adapted well to the
new cage, the bar spacing is different and Joe uses his beak and toes to move
about the cage, but the smaller bar spacing has not bothered Joe at all.
One
of Joe’s exercise routines is to climb down from his top perch to his food and
or water bowl, get food or water and then climb back to his top perch to enjoy
his food or water and then repeat till he is satisfied he has had enough food
and water.
Another
fun thing about Joe’s morning routine is his like for AM640 AM WBGL golden
oldies songs playing in the background while we all “Make Memories” as my
mother Bea Busby would say.
I
took a break from Joe and all things Joe to keep the laundry process going,
have already finished three loads, dried two of the tree, and just put another
load in while getting one started on the drying process.
Ann
who was in the master suite reading and accomplishing one of her four breathing
treatments for the day ask what had me going full speed so early in the
morning. My reply was “Parrot owners are held to a higher standard of
cleanliness then non Parrot owners by their Parrots – Smiles.
Ann
also mentioned she was just wondering what had me getting all these things done
before 9:00 AM. Those of you who were in the U.S. Army long ago may remember
the old Army slogan “Army soldiers get more done before 9:00 AM than most folks
do all day long” – Same slogan goes for Parrot owners - Smiles.
More
fun and exciting moments with Joe the Amazon Parrot to follow once I get my
brain fog under control.
