Today Tuesday July 5, 2016 Joe and Ann slept in while I
attempted to ride the trike in 86 degree heat at 6:30 AM which did not turn out
that well, returned home after only twenty minutes, got the car and made my way
to the gym for walking and cycling in the air-conditioned exercise area.
Once I completed my exercise attempts for the morning stopped
by the store for some Ann, Bob, and Joe food and returned to the house to wake
Joe and Ann up in that order.
Joe had a chi toe and water while Ann had coffee and water and
all three of us woke up on our own schedule which took about an hour for all of
us to be wide awake.
Ann and I spent some quality time with Joe on the lanai while
Joe took his mist shower and walked back to his cage where we all had
conversations, word practice, phrase practice and some intense toy time. When
the hour was over Joe was happy with Ann and My progress and suggested with
just a few more sessions Joe will have two happily trained parrot owners.
Later in the day Joe, Ann and I had some parrot human time
with Joe taking time to stand on our hands and arms, walk up on our shoulders
and then flutter and glide over to the top of his cage and then repeat, repeat,
repeat.
Ann and I have read where parrots are supposed to enjoy eating
and or just destroying stuff, well Joe loves doing just that, but now we are
worried Joe’s love of eating and apparently digesting wood may lead to his not
being able to digest the wood he eats, get wood stuck in his digestive system
instead of just destroying the wood and spiting the wood out. So far Joe is ok
but we have noticed him acting as if he has something stuck in his parrot
throat but he manages to digest it, he has not fell over or coughed anything
up.
While sitting here trying to determine what Joe is saying to
me about his night and morning it came to me that about 3:00 AM I woke up
because I thought I heard Joe say “Lovey Dovey” so as I lay awake in bed
listening for the next phrase that was not uttered I decided to go check on
Joe.
As I entered the living room area it was obvious Joe did not
say anything, I could hear Joe snoozing under his cage cape cover so he could
not have said anything. It has been amazing that once Joe’s cage is covered at
night he gets quiet and never says much of anything until he is uncovered in
the morning.
Just as I was about to get back into bed in the master suite I
swear I heard “Lovey Dovey” again and it was coming from the living room, but I
was too tired to worry about who said it
– Smiles.
While typing down the phrase work from last night Joe decided
it was time to share some of his words “Glug” “Cluck” “Gerrrrrrrrr” “Uhhhhhhhh”
“Love” “Erk” and wonder of wonders the phrase “Lovey Dovey” along with his
favorite words “Help” “Hello” and “Cracker”.
Ann and I of course joined in and practiced some words,
phrases, and intense use of toys with Joe for about half an hour in order to
ensure Joe had a good time this afternoon. The training session ended with Joe
getting a popcorn treat with a beak full of water while Ann and I settled down
to read and just be near Joe while he relaxed and recovered from is training
session.
As always no humans or parrots were injured in the fun times
at the Busby’s house today and more fun and exciting parrot stories will follow
about Joe the Amazon Parrot.
