Today Friday July 1, 2016 started like many of the previous
thirty something days since Joe the Amazon Parrot has come to live in the Busby
house hold, fun, exciting, electric, never dull, and just what Ann and I (Bob)
needed in our lives.
Those of you out there reading this who own pets of any kind
know just what I am typing about and those of you who have not had or do not
have a pet you should get a pet just for the fun and love of having a pet, in
our case Joe the Amazon Therapy Perrot has a place in our hearts and minds as
we do in his.
After all folks there are times when we end up talking to
ourselves and without a pet to talk with we can look and sound really crazy,
but place a pet in the same room with us and we all of a sudden do not look
crazy – smiles.
Ann and I are still working with Joe on his words and phrases
as well as getting him to play with his toys and keep up his exercise routine
and seem to be making progress with Joe or maybe Joe is making progress with Ann
and Me.
Seems like at least half of our last thirty days with Joe we
have had to leave the house for several hours and give Joe some alone time and
that has not seemed to bother Joe, he still welcomes us with “Hello” and gives
us a beak smile.
Early this afternoon Ann and I left Joe at home while we
attended a Fibromyalgia Luncheon and were gone several hours and while we were
gone it rained, rained, and stormed but Joe did well home alone, after all Joe
is a trained Attack Parrot as well as a Therapy Parrot.
Joe worked with Ann on the chicken salad Ann took to the
luncheon and even put his stamp of approval on the tangy and non-tangy chicken
salad. Joe supervised from across the room so the making of the chicken salad
did not have Parrot feathers in it.
Joe our Amazon Parrot does not know what to do with his new humans
Ann and Bob around as much as we are; humans wake him in the morning, humans
play and talk with him in the day, humans put him to perch at night, but Joe
seems to enjoy most of the attention.
When Ann and I returned we had some one on one time and then
two on one time with Joe to make sure he is getting use to being on our
fingers, hand, arm and shoulders so he can be a social with us and others as
needed. Joe is getting use to being with us and seems to enjoy his time with
his humans but still has a ways to go before he really enjoys being with
humans.
Ann is still working on his play and study schedule to keep
him involved with toys, exercise, and being social, at times that schedule gets
in the way of Joe’s blog but Joe and Ann work together on the daily schedule.
Now that we are home Joe assisted in the typing of these notes
– see video – and after a few moments of word and phrase training took time to
eat and drink while Ann and I headed to the master suite for a moment or two of
relaxation.
No Parrots or Humans were injured in the activities of today
and more will follow about the Life and Times of Joe the Amazon Therapy Parrot.
