Today Friday July 22, 2016 has been a long and trying day for
many reasons, but Joe has managed to keep himself busy playing with his parrot stuff,
chewing on his perches, snacking, taking his mist shower, spending time with
Ann in the master suite and of course talking with Ann and Me most of the day
while all three of us read books, practiced words and phrases, and watched
television while all of these activities kept all three of us smiling.
Joe loves to snack on his favorite dry and fresh food but if
Ann or I come into the room with any sort of food, Joe wants some of our food
even if it is just to spit it out once he checks the food with his tong, or he
might savor the small morsel and enjoy it as long as he feels like eating it.
Parrots tend to win your heart as does any pet, but a parrot
can talk and talk and talk and make you feel as if they know what they are
saying to you and even know what sort of posture to present to their parrot
flock.
Ann and I thought long and hard about having pets again, there
was a time when Ann and I had a Cockatiel and a Love Bird for many many years
and were not sure having a bird would be a good thing for us again. However after checking out the various sorts
of pets available Ann and I decided on adopting a Parrot and both of us fell in
love with Joe the Amazon Parrot’s picture we saw on a parrot adoption web site
and the rest is history.
Joe is a ten year old Amazon parrot with a lot of yellow on
his face, neck and head, while his body is mostly green with flecks of maroon
or burgundy on his wings with while under his wings, Joe talks, interacts with
everyone in the room, mixes with all who enter “His Parrot House” and wants to
be the center of attention and has no problem letting anyone know when he is
bored or feels he is being ignored.
Joe has Ann right where he wants her while Ann feels she has
Joe right where she wants him, while I am just happy to be with Joe and Ann as
we all three make the human and parrot experience work for all three of us.
Ann and I read that the double yellow-headed Amazon parrot is rarely shy, rather this
Amazon parrot is outgoing, intelligent and possess a strong personality, and
that is definitely our Joe the Amazon Parrot.
Sometimes if not all
the time Joe can be considered a “drama king," and should be closely supervise
around strangers since Amazon Parrots, Joe included like to mix with the
audience and have no fear when it comes to beaking someone. Amazon Parrots in
general and Joe especially likes entertaining an audience, be it talking or
singing to the crowd.
Joe is still deciding
when to share all of his personality with us and others but is making great
head way in his patience while training us to be the perfect Amazon Parrot
Humans to take care of him.
Joe is a typical ten
year old parrot in that he wants to sleep late and stay up late and if you try
and get him up or put him to bed when he is not ready he lets you know with
words, phrases and a shriek or two that he wants to be left alone till he is
ready for human interaction starting or ending his day.
We have also read that Parrots are known to be extremely empathetic and tuned into the emotional environment around them, and can sense stress and tension, anger and distress in their owners, before these feelings break the surface. Our Joe definitely knows when either of us are stressed out and Joe is working on letting us know when we are about to be overcome from various stress situations.
Just having Joe the Amazon Parrot in our home for the last fifty-five days has made a huge difference in our lives as does any pet, but Joe seems to know how to bring a smile to our faces when we least expect it.
I will provide more fun and exciting moments with Joe the
Amazon Therapy Parrot when Joe decides to provide his perspective along with
ours on the day’s events – smiles.
No parrot or human was harmed in the interaction of Parrot and
Humans on this day and evening.
