Joe the
Amazon Parrot #14
Today is Monday (June 13, 2016) and another fun week of
retired life kicking off with our new Amazon Parrot therapy bird named Joe.
This will be our sixteenth day with Joe and so far Joe has
decided to keep us around as his new flock members while Ann and I are still
being tested by Joe who is making sure we are going to be the right fit for him
for the next ten years or so.
Joe has already made a difference in Ann’s day, Ann is out of
bed more, still reads, but comes to the living room area to read with Joe who
is in or on his cage, Joe has not learned to get on his outside play stand
perch so Ann can roll him back in the master suite with her while she reads.
As previously mentioned Ann and I are both avid readers so we
read or watch television with Joe in the living room while Joe watches
television and talks to us, what a life.
Ann is already getting into her pet bird teaching mode and
getting Joe ready to be a therapy bird for her, me, and others. Joe is a real
person pleaser in that he loves to talk when others enter the room; we just
have to get him more at ease with stepping up and being on fingers, hands and
shoulders.
This morning Joe got a special treat in his food dish, he got
to enjoy a fresh home grown cherry tomato grown by our friend Mary and Joe
loved that tomato. Tried to get pictures of Joe devouring the cherry tomato but
Joe was not having his picture taken while he ate this morning. Joe did tell me
to be sure and tell Mary thanks for the fresh tomato.
Ann and I have been doing all those fun things pet bird owners
do in the morning after they wake their covered bird up, clean the food and
water dishes, clean the perches, changed out the paper in the bottom of the
cage, give the bird (Joe) his special portion of cinnamon toast, clean in,
under and around the cage, and of course talk with Joe the entire time all the
morning chores are taking place.
Today is another doctor visit day for Ann so we will be out of
here for several hours leaving Joe home alone with his television and in charge
of the alarm systems in case any uninvited guest drops by.
Joe knows when we are heading out since we close his cage door
and Joe does not like his cage door closed unless it is night night time. Joe
does know how to open his cage door in an emergency so beware uninvited guest –
smiles.
Joe of course is part of our new alarm system and is not only
a therapy bird but an attack Amazon Parrot – Beware uninvited guest - attack
Amazon Parrot
More fun facts about Joe the Amazon Parrot to follow as the
days and weeks continue to amaze us with our new therapy bird.
