Ann Busby and I
(Bob Busby) have adopted a double yellow headed Amazon Parrot – Story 3
This morning is the first morning Joe has been living at the
Busby’s after an afternoon and evening of fun getting settled in. Joe was one
tired bird after his drive through the Florida country side seeing sights he
had not seen before. Once Ann and I (Bob) got Joe home and his cage set up he
was happy to watch some television with us, eat a few snacks, and drink some
water and just chill with us till he started to fade into a bird nap.
Ann and I got Joe ready for bed and even though he had not
been sleeping in a covered cage before we decided to try the covered cage to
see if Joe would like it, maybe make him feel more safe during his first night
and morning stay at his new home. Joe loved the covered cage and we did not
here a sound from Joe all night or morning.
This morning I expected to wake up to Joe calling for his
flock but woke to silence at 6:30 AM with the sun starting to rise. Once I was
in the main room with Joe who was not moving or making a sound with his cage
still covered, I decided to make coffee and get Joe’s breakfast ready, well the
food Ann prepared before she went to sleep last night.
After getting my coffee and taking Joe’s cage covering off
it was apparent Joe was not awake yet, opened his eyes, took one look at me and
said HELLO and then closed his eyes for a quick power nap before breakfast.
While waiting for Joe to wake up for the day of fun I am
sure WE all will have I took a few pictures and wrote a few notes till Joe woke
up – one eye then the other and then another loud HELLO.
Joe had food and water in his cage but I put his new food in
for him and he checked it out before getting a drink of water and then moving
through his cage to make sure it met his standards. Once Joe was happy with his
cage he preened and got his feathers the way he wanted them and then decided to
watch me for a minute or two.
I played the video of Joe I took at his old residence yesterday
and that got him talking and he did about five LOUD YELLS of some sort of
barking and a few HELLOs.
Ann made an appearance after the squawks to make sure all
was well and then went back to bed, Ann was in pain most of the night and
morning and did not sleep well so she is catching up on that lost sleep time.
Joe and I continued to talk and have some sort of fun, but
Joe is a ladies kind of guy so he still does not trust me enough to come out of
his cage with me but will take food from me, who knew – Smiles.
More on the life and times of Joe the Amazon Parrot to
follow – Squawk.
