Late this morning Wednesday June 22, 2016 Ann and I had fun
with Joe who decided to entertain us with his new phrases and words learned
recently and some from who knows how long ago.
What – Want a cracker – Hello – Laughter – Bob – Ann – Red
Rover – Well Well – Cracker – Whistle - Want to come over – and several
different types of laughter?
Joe is a real show bird when it comes to talking, walking,
gliding, climbing and even eating, and can bring a smile to our faces with just
a look and turn of his beak and he knows he has us in wrapped around his little
toe, yes Amazon Parrots have toes.
Ann and I ask Joe to come with us today while we were out with
our friend Mary Decker but Joe decided he needed a rest and stayed home while
the three of us were out for lunch.
When Mary, Ann and I returned from lunch Joe was ready for us
and started talking immediately to win us over with his charm and character and
it worked.
While out we stopped at the Leesburg, FL pet store and picked
up a few parrot toys and some different parrot food for Joe. Mary got Joe a new
toy that Joe seemed to love as soon as Mary took the toy out of the bag it came
in but was even more interested in the French fry Mary gave Joe to snack on.
Since Mary was here and Joe enjoyed her company it was decided
Joe needed to go ahead and impress all of us with his afternoon shower and chat
session. We all made our way to the lanai where Joe got ready for his shower on
his perch stand and the shower began.
As mentioned Joe can be a real show bird when he wants to, he
likes to stoop down and kind of flap his wings as he waits for the shower mist
to float down on him, once the mist hits his wings Joe soaks in the mist and
begins to chat and enjoy the mist.
Joe insisted Mary take a turn misting him and impressed Mary
with his love of the mist and his ability to chat with all of us as we sat
there watching Joe soak in the mist and the attention.
Once the shower and chat session was over Joe glided down to
the floor and started his walk back to his cage in the living room and showed
us how he has mastered climbing from the lanai floor to the living room floor.
It was obvious Joe was showing off for Mary since he was
taking his time doing the Parrot walk back to his cage where he slowly beaked
and toed his way up the side of the cage to the top and then started talking
immediately.
After several minutes of fun chatting Mary told Joe bye bye
and left with me to go back to her house. Ann said as soon as Mary and I left
the house Joe started talking more and saying even more words and phrases than
he had while we were there.
On my return from dropping Mary off at her house Joe came out
of his cage and spend some quality time on our hands and arms chatting the
entire time but a nap and a snack were calling to Joe and he jumped to his cage
and bid Ann and I bye bye so he could have his snack and nap.
Today was just another day in the life and times of Joe the
Amazon Parrot with his new parents Ann and Bob and of course friend Mary.
